White Christmas

Christmas In New York City
Six ladies from First Baptist Church Dothan headed out to New York City on Dec. 18, 2009 to do a little sightseeing, shopping, theater, and to attend the Brooklyn Tabernacle church service and Christmas Cantata. Little did we know that we were in for a big surprise. A blizzard!!!! I should not have been surprised at all though, because I tend to bring extreme weather with me wherever I go. It was a beautiful sight and it did not slow us down one bit.
Elisa and I are in Central Park on Monday after the blizzard on Sat. night. It actually did not affect us too much because when we got up on Sunday morning it had stopped snowing. We did have to slip and slide for a couple of blocks as we made our way down to the subway station to catch the train to Brooklyn.
Times Square after the blizzard on Sat. night. When we got up on Sunday morning the snow plows were already at work clearing the streets and salting the sidewalks.
How ironic! Irving Berlin's White Christmas was playing in the Marquis Theater where we were staying. We felt so blessed to have a White Christmas in NYC!
Here we are at the Brooklyn Tabernacle waiting for the church service to begin.

Rockefeller Center
The famous tree and ice skating rink.

Pictured above-Susan Morrow, Debbie Fain, Me, Kerrie Reed, Elisa Grimmer, and Linda Bailey. Notice that Linda has her arm in a sling made from her pink scarf. Well, this is because she slipped and fell on black ice right outside Junior's Bakery that morning as we left the Marriott Marquis and crossed the street to get breakfast. She was quite a trooper. Luckily we were to fly out that night at 8 coming home, so she endured it all day and never complained. I think I would have had to complain just a little!!!!! After we got home she went to the doctor and sure enough, her wrist was broken and she ended up having to have a pin put in it. Tough gal!
We arrived in Queens on Friday night and stayed overnight out at LaGuardia Airport. Very early Sat. morning we headed into the city. We checked into the Marriott, then hit the streets of New York. We had a great time seeing all the Christmas decorations and viewing all the store windows. We walked to Central Park and decided to take a carriage ride in the park. We then headed back to the Theater District to pick up Broadway tickets. Sat. night everyone went to Broadway plays except me. I did not go because I had already seen the ones they wanted to see. So, I stayed in my hotel room and watched with blizzard. Jim Cantore from the Weather Channel was right down below us at Times Square doing the weather report. He reported that people would be stranded until Thurs. (which was Christmas Eve). But, we were very fortunate and were able to leave LaGuardia on Monday night 20 minutes after we were scheduled to leave.
Sunday morning we headed to Brooklyn and were there until around 5 pm. We took the train back to Times Square and some of us went to Mary Poppins and others went to Lion King.
On Monday morning we headed to Central Park to enjoy the snow. And what a treat that was! We saw lots of people walking their pets in the snow in the park. After an awesome morning of trudging in the snow, we headed to Radio City to see the Christmas Spectacular with the Rockettes. As we left the show we decided to catch a late lunch, then head on out to the airport and hope that we had a flight home. And, indeed we did. After we arrived in Atlanta around 9 pm, we loaded up in my van and drove back to Dothan.
We had a fabulous trip and still feel so blessed to have had a White Christmas!
